Codonopsis Pilosula - 1 part

This beauty hails from the East and has been identified as a hypoglycemic modulator, with the ability to improve insulin resistance. Most impressive in this study was the ability of Codonopsis to slow the progression of diabetes by increasing Aldose reductase activity. It’s just flat-out magic. 

Curcuma Longa (Curcumin) - 1 part

The American Diabetes Association published a study about Curcumins' ability to guard against the development of Type 2 diabetes. In a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial, 240 people, all confirmed with pre-diabetes, were given either curcumin or a placebo every day for nine months. At the end of nine months, 16% of the placebo group had developed full-blown Diabetes. After the same nine months, none (0%)  of the Curcumin group developed Type 2 Diabetes.

Date Palm Seed  (Phoenix Dactylifera Seed) 1.5 part

Arabic folk medicine used Date Palm seeds to manage diabetes for thousands of years. As scientific studies are happening more and more often to test the effectiveness of herbs, researchers were surprised that Date Palm Seed ‘Significantly reduced Glucose, Urea, Creatinine, ALT, and AST, TBARS while improving the health of the kidney and liver'.

Gymnema Sylvestre (Gurmar) 3 parts

Saving the best for last, Gymnema demonstrates herbal super-powers when it comes to fighting the effects of high blood sugar. In several studies, Gymnema reduced blood sugar levels for 2-4 hours after administration, comparable to the drug Glibenclamide. It’s been further studied for its potential use in Anti-Obesity products and was found to suppress weight at the same level as the drug Chitosan. I won’t data you to death, but the studies on this herb are prolific and powerful. And how much to achieve this super-power effect? 100 mg per kg of body weight daily. 

There are other herbs in this category, but I chose these for their relative accessibility, and low potential for stomach upset. That said, we also use Huangqi, Nigella Sativa, and Acacia Arabica extract in formulas to reduce and control blood sugar levels.
